Kicking off 2024 with a new job - Oliver's Story

Our Introduction to the Facilities Industry course is ideal for learners who want to learn and gain a broad understanding about the facilities and services industry, with a specific focus on customer services.

The course covers the fundamentals of customer services, as well as health, safety, and security in the facilities industry and workplace hygiene.

One learner who recently completed the course is Oliver Smith from Bolton in Greater Manchester.

Oliver's Story

After previously gaining a BTEC since leaving full-time education, Oliver had struggled to tie down a permanent role and was looking to upskill before re-entering employment. He enrolled on our Introduction to the Facilities Industry course to learn more about both customer services and working in the facilities industry.

We asked Oliver about his overall experience on the course and what he enjoyed most about it.

"What I enjoyed most about the course was learning new skills and knowledge about working in the facilities industry. I also really enjoyed the team building exercises.

"I now know a lot more about food hygiene and all the different ways of dealing with and helping customers, as well as using all different cleaning methods."

Increased Confidence & Tutor Support

Oliver also praised the support of his tutor, who helped boost his confidence and explained the details of the course clearly.

"It's given me more confidence in myself and how to help others just like me.

"The tutor was also very helpful and explained the content in great detail. She was also very pleasant and helpful when explaining the course to us."

New Job Secured

Since completing the course, not only did Oliver receive his Level 1 Certificate, but he has also successfully re-entered employment, working for a leading manufacturer of retailer-branded cakes.

He explained what the course has provided for him in terms of his new skills and knowledge, as well as his new role.

"The course has given me increased knowledge, the opportunity for a whole new job role and all the different things I didn't know before.

"I also secured a full-time role after completing the course. My new job role includes cleaning the equipment I use after making and packing products, which are skills I learnt on the course."
