This basic IT skills course is designed for those who are seeking a future career in digital and IT Technical Support.

During this accredited online course, you’ll gain relevant and valuable knowledge, as well as technical and practical skills.

We’ll also support you into relevant progression routes such as apprenticeships, bootcamps and employment after you’ve completed the course.

The IT skills course will be delivered in a virtual classroom, so you will need access to a laptop/computer with an internet connection to complete the course.

You will also complete employability modules designed to help you market yourself for your future career.

COURSE CONTENT & KEY UNITS

As part of the Digital & IT Skills course, you’ll complete the following key units over the five-week duration of the course:

In this first unit, you will investigate the accidental and malicious security threats that exist to IT systems and data. You will learn about system vulnerabilities and the tools and techniques used to protect users from risks and potential damage, including loss of data, loss of data integrity and unauthorised access to data.

In this unit, you will develop the knowledge and skills to plan, develop and review a digital skills project.

In this unit, you will develop an understanding of presentation software and how to create effective presentations for different purposes and audiences. You will also learn about inclusive design and how to apply techniques to ensure presentations are accessible.

You will explore the principles of computer programming to understand how programming works. You will develop text-based programming skills to design and develop your own computer program.

In this unit, will develop an understanding of the different types of digital graphics and how they are used. You will research and plan design ideas in response to a client brief and learn how to manipulate digital graphics using photo and vector editing techniques to create bitmap and vector graphics for specific purposes.

You will learn about different network types and the standards that relate to them. You will also develop an understanding of the key components, protocols and applications that support networking to configure a network to meet organisational requirements.

In this unit, you will learn to understand IT diagnostic procedures, so you are able to identify and repair faults when installing, configuring, and testing IT systems and mobile devices for a range of user needs. You will also learn about the hardware and networking components needed in an IT system, how operating systems work and the types of software and applications that need to be installed and configured.

You will develop an understanding of spreadsheet software tools and techniques to be able to produce spreadsheets. You will also learn how to apply advanced formulae and functions to process data and use automated tools to aid productivity.

This unit will help you to understand the importance of digital skills in the workplace and how changes in employment have led to an increase in demand across several sectors. You will learn about the different types of job roles where digital skills are required, and the characteristics valued by employers to establish a successful career in today’s digital economy. You will also identify your own career/progression goals and plan
how to develop your digital skills to meet your intended goals.
