Our Networking & Cybersecurity course is designed to help learners develop and extend their digital and IT skills to prepare for different roles in network support and digital design.

On completion of the course, each learner receives an industry-recognised Level 3 qualification in Networking & Cybersecurity.

One learner who recently completed the course is Adeniyi from Bromley.

"Real-world experience"

Adeniyi told us his reasons for enrolling on the course, and how he benefited not only from the style of learning, but from the practical skills he gained while on the course.

The practical, hands-on learning style really appealed to me because it's crucial for obtaining real-world experience in the industry. It was also the perfect decision for me because of the assistance provided by knowledgeable teachers and the accessibility of resources like recorded lectures and online learning materials.

I also valued the chance to acquire practical skills that would support my certification pursuits and potential professional success.

New skills gained

Adeniyi also told us how the course led to him gaining new and relevant skills to work within cybersecurity, and how he now feels more prepared for working in this environment. He talked us through some of the projects and units he completed while on the course and how he’ll benefit from the new skills he gained.

During my course, I completed several key projects and tasks that allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills I gained throughout the programme.

I worked on configuring and troubleshooting various types of networks, where I set up both wired and wireless networks, addressed connectivity issues, and optimized network performance.

I also conducted a cybersecurity risk assessment for a mock business, identifying potential vulnerabilities in the network and recommending security measures to mitigate threats, and participated in several virtual lab exercises that simulated real-world IT scenarios, such as configuring routers, setting up VPNs, and responding to cyber-attacks.

"Perfect balance of theory and practice"

Adeniyi also reflected on his overall experience while on the course and described it as an enjoyable one, with support received from his tutors, who also kept him motivated when certain subjects were proving difficult.

What I enjoyed most about the course was the hands-on, practical experience. The opportunity to work on real-world projects, like configuring networks and conducting cybersecurity risk assessments, allowed me to apply what I was learning in a meaningful way. I particularly enjoyed the practical lab sessions, where I could troubleshoot issues and simulate network configurations, which made the concepts come to life.

Additionally, I appreciated the support and guidance from my tutors, who were always available to help clarify complex topics. Overall, the course provided a perfect balance of theory and practice, which kept me engaged and motivated throughout.

"Priceless support system"

When asked if he would recommend this course to a friend, Adeniyi spoke in great detail about the benefits he enjoyed while on the course, and the support that was in place to help himself and other succeed. He also offered some words of advice for anyone thinking of enrolling on the course in the future.

I would advise anyone applying to this course to be ready to participate in both the theoretical and practical components of the course. Since a lot of learning occurs through hands-on practice, make sure you schedule time for it.

Being receptive to both subjects is crucial because the course provides a good blend of networking and cybersecurity abilities. Additionally, while the course can be challenging at times, particularly when juggling projects and assignments, maintain organisation and practise efficient time management.

Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for assistance; whether it comes from peers or tutors, the support system is priceless and will greatly facilitate your learning process.

Next steps and increased confidence

Not only did Adeniyi successfully complete the course and gain an accredited Level 3 qualification in Networking & Cybersecurity, but he also gained a huge boost in confidence that he now plans to use to secure an entry-level role working in IT. He concluded his feedback by telling us about his next steps, and described how the course has helped him to kickstart a career in this industry.

My next professional steps include looking for a position in IT, particularly in networking or cybersecurity. I intend to use the knowledge and abilities I've acquired from this course, such as troubleshooting, cybersecurity protocols, and network configuration, in an entry-level role where I can keep learning and obtaining practical experience.

In order to improve my credentials and increase my marketability, I also plan to obtain industry certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Security+. In the end, I want to rise in the IT industry by assuming increasingly challenging positions in network administration or cybersecurity as I gain more experience.

I feel really certain that I can advance in my career now that I've finished this course. I now have a solid foundation in both networking and cybersecurity, two skills that employers highly value. I'm well-prepared for challenges in the real world because of my practical work experience and understanding of industry-standard tools and procedures.

Furthermore, the encouragement I got from peers and tutors has increased my confidence in using what I've learnt. Knowing that I have the abilities and knowledge required to thrive and keep developing, I am now excited to take the next step and look for employment prospects in IT.

Congratulations again Adeniyi, and the very best of luck in your future career!
