Our Principles of Management & Leadership course is designed to help you prepare for managerial roles, by introducing you to the key responsibilities that come with management.

As part of the course, you’ll complete a series of units that relate directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected for a management role. This includes learning about objective setting, allocating work and communicating effectively, as well as how to handle conflict and manage your own self development.

On completion of the course, you’ll receive an accredited CMI Level 3 qualification in Principles of Management & Leadership.

One learner who recently completed the course is Vikash from Birmingham, who took some time out to reflect on his experience while on the course and shares his thoughts with us below.

Strong reputation

Vikash first told us his reasons why he enrolled on the CMI Principles of Management and Leadership course, and particularly his reasons for wanting to complete the course with us.

I chose to complete this course with Back2Work because of their strong reputation for delivering high-quality training. The Chartered Management Institute's qualifications are well-respected too, and I was looking for a flexible, online learning experience that allowed me to develop my management skills while unemployed.

Enjoyable experience

Vikash also expanded on what elements of the course he most enjoyed, as well as the modules he successfully completed and the biggest learnings he took from his time with us. He also mentioned the collaborative learning environment created by his tutor, which he also appreciated and enjoyed while learning with us.

Throughout the course, I worked on several modules and tasks focused on key management principles, including team leadership, strategic planning, and performance management. I also participated in interactive discussions, collaboration with other students and applied real-world scenarios to deepen my understanding of management practices.

I most enjoyed the interactive nature of the course. The online format via Teams made it easy to engage with peers and instructors, while the mix of theory and practical application kept the material relevant and applicable.

The opportunity to explore different management styles and techniques was particularly beneficial. Hearing peoples stories and experiences on the course I also enjoyed, as well as the tutor (Suzanne Whenlock) who was incredibly patient and sincere.

Advice for others

He also shared his reasons why he would recommend the course to others, as well as offering some practical advice for anyone thinking of enrolling for themselves.

My advice would be to stay proactive and engage fully with the material and fellow participants. Time management is key to balancing the course with your outside responsibilities, so using the dedicated study time each week will help ensure success.

Additionally, show up each day ready and committed to participate, get involved, share ideas and ask questions.

The content is well-structured, and the online learning format makes it accessible even for those with busy schedules. It provides valuable insights into management principles that can be applied directly to a variety of work environments, and the support from B2W was amazing throughout.

Next steps

Not only did Vikash gain valuable insights and skills to take forward in his pursuit of a career working in a management role, but he also gained an accredited CMI Level 3 Diploma in Principles of Management & Leadership to boost his overall employability and add to his CV. He concluded his feedback by revealing his next steps, which could involve further learning and employment.

After completing this course, I plan to further develop my skills and seek opportunities to take on more strategic roles with employment. I’m also considering pursuing additional qualifications to build on what I’ve learned.

I feel much more confident progressing in my career after completing this course. The knowledge and skills I’ve gained in key management areas will enable me to make more informed decisions, lead teams effectively, and contribute to my long-term success.

Congratulations again Vikash, and the very best of luck in your future management career!
