As part of our pre-employment training service, the Introduction to Construction course in Greater Manchester provides local unemployed residents with a thorough introduction to the industry, along with three accredited qualifications in Construction, Health & Safety and Retrofit.

One learner who recently completed the course is Helen from Hulme in Manchester.

Helen's story

After a period of unemployment, Helen decided to pursue a new career working in the construction industry.

She enrolled on our Introduction to Construction pre-employment training course for this reason, and explained how the support she received from her tutor helped her successfully find employment.

I felt fully supported from my tutor (Julian), who also helped me with research and in my job search. I also enjoyed meeting and interacting with different people on the course.

I gained employment after completing my training, where I'll be cleaning new build properties as they are being built.

Key Qualifications

Not only did Helen successfully complete the course, but she also gained a Level 1 Introduction to Construction Certificate, a Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment, and a Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retro Fit. Helen reflected on the reasons why she initially enrolled on the course, and the importance of the qualifications she achieved.

I joined the course to gain more knowledge of health and safety, as well as achieve the qualifications I needed for the job I wanted to do.
