Our employment support programme in the West Midlands, Works4U, is designed to provide opportunities for local residents to overcome personal challenges, learn key employability skills and eventually, move into full-time employment.

The programme provides wrap-around support to help local unemployed residents find the right opportunity for them, while breaking down any barriers that could be holding them back from finding work.

One learner who recently completed the programme is Nino from Birmingham.

Nino's story

Nino arrived on our Works4U programme lacking confidence in himself and was struggling with numerous personal challenges that were holding him back from finding employment.

He was keen to find the support he needed and through our programme of employment support, he managed to regain his confidence.

Nino told us about how the support he received made him feel welcomed, included and listened to.

Firstly, I felt welcome and they never judged me. They supported me mentally by encouraging me to attend the sessions, checking in on me to see if I was ok when I had a hard time.

The personal one-to-one coaching was also very beneficial for me, because the focus was on my needs and I felt listened to and understood.

Supported and encouraged

Nino also described the support he received from the whole team at Works4U, and how they helped him prepare for future job interview situtations.

I learnt new things about the work environment that I didn't know, and received personal support when I didn't know what to do.

The attention I had from everybody in the team, despite the fact I had a tutor, they were all there to support me. They all showed positivity and were all involved in helping me for my interview.

Confidence boost

Not only did Nino successfully complete our Works4U employability programme, but he also received a boost in confidence and new skills to take forward as he continues his search for sustained employment.

He told us more about the key things he learnt during his time on the programme and how his confidence has grown since completing his sessions with us.

They always supported me and cared for me, and my tutor was very good and helped me to understand my value in the workplace by providing me with the right information in the best way.

I learnt about my own value and how to present myself in the work environment.

I am now more confident about myself, and better understand the relationship between the worker and the employer, and how to present myself in a interview.

Congratulations again Nino, and the very best of luck in your future career!
