Our Level 3 Principles of Special Educational Needs (SEN) course is designed to help you develop and extend your overall knowledge to help you progress within this sector. It’s suitable for those seeking a career in childcare, teaching or family support, with a desire to understand more about supporting those with Special Educational Needs.
As part of the course, you’ll complete several units that cover a wide range of behavioural and developmental issues you may encounter when caring for children with SEN and how to support them.
The course is delivered over 14.5 days in a virtual classroom, so you will need access to a laptop/computer with an internet connection to complete the course.
On completion of the course, you’ll receive an industry-recognised Level 3 qualification in Principles of Special Educational Needs.
As part of the course, you’ll complete the following five key units:
The aim of this unit is to introduce you to the factors that influence children and young people’s development from birth and learn how to monitor their development.
In this unit, you will learn about different SEN services and the current legislation that informs working practice. You will understand how the views of children, young people and carers, as well as reflective practice, can be used to improve learning development services.
The aim of this unit is to learn how to support children and young people to plan towards achieving positive outcomes, and then help them to deal with attitudes or behaviours that may undermine their learning opportunities.
In this unit, you’ll learn and understand how to support children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. You will learn how to support children and young people with behaviour, social and emotional difficulties and know how to work with others to support children and young people.
The aim of this unit is to consider the support available for disabled children and young people and the approaches taken to implement services. You will learn how services impact on children and young people who have specific requirements and the legal requirements for recording, sharing and storing information.
