In a post-pandemic world, you’ll find that most training courses are now delivered online via eLearning.

At Back2Work, we deliver both classroom and online training in a wide range of disciplines and recognise that online learning is a completely new concept and experience for a lot of learners.

In this short blog, we highlight the key elements of a typical online course with what you can expect to find, to best prepare yourself if you’ve recently enrolled onto one of our fully-funded training courses.

Time commitment

If you’re interested in joining one of our online courses to learn new skills, there’s a significant time commitment required to complete your training, so make sure you’re available on the dates required for your chosen course.

This could be anything from three days to five weeks, so do plan ahead and sure you’re available for the duration of the course.

Top Tip: If you have prior commitments such as school drop-offs/pick-ups, or any appointments, just make your tutor aware beforehand. They can then arrange out of hours support to bring you up-to-speed on anything you may have missed.

Technology & skills needed for online learning

It goes without saying that any online course you sign up for will require you to access your own PC or laptop with an internet connection.

Some of the other basic skills needed to complete an online training course include:

  • A basic typing proficiency
  • Knowledge of how to navigate the internet and online resources
  • Being able to use a digital library and find relevant articles
  • Using email to communicate and send attachments

You may also need to download certain types of software or other platforms to use throughout your learning.

Our experienced tutors will be able to guide you through every step and help answer any questions you may have regarding the technology required to complete your training.

Top Tip: We tend to use Microsoft Teams to deliver our online training courses. If you aren't familiar with this software, our friendly enrolment advisors and tutors will be able to provide some assistance to get you set up and ready for the start of your course.

Interpersonal skills

Just like with a traditional classroom-based course, you’ll be expected to interact with your tutor and fellow learners by answering and asking questions, contributing to discussions and joining in with any group tasks that could take place.

To best prepare for interacting with your tutor and fellow learners, you should be ready to:

  • Use clear, concise language
  • Provide thorough responses to any questions
  • Use the right tone – you should speak in a friendly, professional manner that respects others on the course
By doing each of these, you’ll be off to a great start.

The benefits of an online training course

We understand that you may have some hesitation before signing up for an online training course – it may be completely new to you, or just simply not your preferred way to learn.

However, we believe that each of our online training courses are delivered in an efficient, friendly and fun way to develop your existing skills or help introduce you to a completely new skillset in order to further your career or get back into work.

Just some of the main benefits of our online training courses are:

Convenience

Being able to access a training course online from home saves any potential travel, accommodation or other expenses that can be required with classroom-based learning.

Support payments

To help with the cost of energy and broadband bills, we provide a one-off payment for online learners to help cover the cost of using electricity and the internet at home.

Out of hours support available

If you have regular family commitments, or need to attend pre-arranged appointments or interviews, our tutors will provide one-to-one support to bring you up-to-speed on any course content you may have missed.
