The number of available drivers is decreasing rapidly in the UK, while imports of goods are continually rising. In 2020 over 85% of all imported freights were delivered by road with HGVs (Carlier, Statistica 2023). Without the essential workers we would miss many different products online and on our shelves at the supermarket. From the above statistic, it’s fair to say that all HGV drivers are important to us as a country.

Ultima is one of the largest heavy goods vehicle training providers across the Greater Manchester and Lancashire area. The Back2Work Complete Training, we recently partnered with Ultima to train new HGV drivers., making an impact on these issues.

On 23rd February, Scott Blagg, our HGV trainer, spoke to some of our current learners to hear their feedback around the training course. Here’s what Anthony and Zaheer had to say:

Anthony White

How have you found your training so far?

“It’s been really good so far. There’s lots to take in. On the first day I had around 4 hours of driving which is a lot. I got a little tired, but it was good, really good!”

What’s something you learnt that stands out the most?

“All the safety procedures.”

You have your 3B test next week, are you feeling confident?

“Yeah, I’m level”

Zaheer Chaudhry

After 3 weeks of training, Zaheer has now completed his course and gained a Level 2 Driving Goods Certificate. He then went on to train further with Ultima at their St Helens practical training center.

How did you come to find The B2W Group?

“I spoke with the Job Center and told them I wanted to do something different. They told me about The B2W Group.”

What have you learnt from this course?

“A lot of things, the course has changed my thinking and my driving. I did the course online which taught me awareness and what HGV driving is all about. First of all, I did my theory test with B2W. They paid for it!”

What did you think to the course?

“It wasn’t easy, but it was very exciting. I really enjoyed it and the people at The B2W Group and Ultima were very friendly and very happy all the way. Hopefully when I see the jobs out there, I’ve got a lot to give.”
